VW has shown a prototype of a city midget car

Volkswagen Up

On a motor show in Los Angeles concern Volkswagen has presented a new prototype of city midget car Up! Lite, equipped hybrid a diesel engine-electric a power-plant. This car considerably differs from previous conceptual Up!, which VW shows on each large motor show, since Geneva of 2008.

New Up! Lite is much larger than predecessors with the same name — the length makes 3,84 metres against 3,14 metres at the previous models.

The novelty is equipped by system "Stop/Start" thanks to what the average expense of fuel does not exceed 2,44 litres on 100 km of a way, and emissions СО2 make only 65 g/km. Thus, Up! Lite it is dynamical enough: with 0 to 100 km/h the car is dispersed for 12,5 sec, and the maximum speed reaches 160 km/h.

About batch production prospects it is concrete this model while it is informed nothing. It is quite probable, that Up! Lite is only one of members of new family of the city midget cars Volkswagen united under general brand Up! Besides a hybrid, in this series electromobiles with traditional power-plants, and the first serial VW Up will enter also! It is expected by 2011.
